Elfin Cars is an iconic Australia Car Brand with a rich history in producing high-performance sports and racing cars. Founded in 1959 by Garrie Cooper in South Australia, Elfin quickly became a dominant force in Australian motorsport, designing and building a diverse range of successful racing vehicles. Over 240 racing and sports cars were produced across 27 different models during its initial 25 years, accumulating an impressive 29 championships and major titles.
After Garrie Cooper’s untimely death in 1982, the company underwent several ownership changes. In the early 2000s, Elfin collaborated with GM Holden, leading to the creation of the retro-inspired MS8 Streamliner and MS8 Clubman. These modern Elfin models were powered by Holden’s V8 engines, combining classic Australian racing heritage with contemporary performance. Production of these later models ceased in 2012.
In May 2023, Elfin Cars was acquired by Young Timers Garage (YTG), a Melbourne-based luxury car dealer. The new owners have announced plans to revive the brand, focusing on producing high-quality, high-performance road and track cars that honor Elfin’s legendary racing pedigree. This marks an exciting new chapter for Australia’s longest continuously operating sports car manufacturer, keeping its legacy alive in the World-Wide Q&A of niche automotive production.
